Silvio Parnis was born in Paola in 1965 to Michael and Doris. He married Dorianne nee Cauchi in December 2007.
Education
Mr Parnis was educated at the Paola Primary School and at Mt Carmel College in Santa Venera. Later he followed a course organized by the International Institute of Ageing (Inia).
Career
He used to work as a Health supervisor and as an assistant social worker with senior citizens recovered in St Vincent De Paule.
Politics
Silvio Parnis served as Mayor of Paola from 1994 till 1998. He was first elected in Parliament in 1998, re-elected in 2003 and in 2008 with the largest amount of votes in the 4th electoral district. Since elected in Parliament Silvio Parnis was the Malta Labour Party spokesperson for the elderly.
During the previous legislature Mr Parnis together with a team of experts prepared the Malta Labour Party policy document for the elderly after consulting all the concerned parties in the island.
In June 2008 the newly elected Labour Leader, Dr Joseph Muscat chose Silvio Parnis as the Main Opposition Spokesperson for Consumer Protection.
Amongst the political figures and leaders which Silvio admires most is Oscar Romero. Romero as Archbishop of El Salvador, witnessed ongoing violations of human rights and started a group which spoke out on behalf of the poor and victims of the country's civil war. In 1980, he was assassinated by a right-wing group headed by former major Roberto D'Aubuisson as he held the consecrated Host up during a Mass.
Voluntary Work
Silvio did Voluntary Work in Kenya amongst poor people and founded the 'M'intix wahdek' foundation. This Foundation helps people who are facing social problems and difficulties.

Silvio Parnis used to present the program 'Problemi tal-Qalb' on Super One and is currently the producer and presenter of the program 'M'intix wahdek' aired on Smash TV.
